Home Woodturning How segmented vessels are made Not a Workshop Links |
These are all segmented vessels. They are called so because they are built up from individual segments instead of cut from a monolithic block of wood. This allows creating a pattern in the wood without resorting to inlays, as the pattern "goes all the way through" to the inside of the vessel. Each of the colors represented here is a natural color of the wood involved. These vessels use the following woods: Koa, Padauk, Purple Heart, Alder, Brazilian Mahogany, Walnut and Mango. Koa and Mango grow here in Hawaii, while the others are from various locations around the world. |
